The most devastating news imaginable

Earlier this afternoon, the MFM doctor called with the preliminary results of the amniocentesis. Sweet baby Sara Kay has a lethal genetic defect and will not be able to survive outside the womb. Please continue to pray for her, that she doesn't experience any suffering. Please continue to pray for us, that we have the strength to come through this most difficult time. Thank you for all of your prayers, love, and support.

  1. There are no words to express my saddness for you, and no words I can say that might bring you comfort. Just know you are in our prayers.

  2. Dear Todd and Krystal, My heart aches for you and what you have gone through. There are no words to describe the pain and helplessness a parent feels when they are told they are losing a child. My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage and broke my heart. Then my husband and I experienced a similar heartbreak when doctors diagnosed our unborn baby with spina bifida (an opening in the spine) at 20weeks pregnant. It was not the spina bifida itself that threatened our baby's life but the location of the opening in the spine shown in the first ultrasound. We were told that based on this diagnosis our little boy would not live outside the womb or if he did he would be on life support. I don't have to tell you the devastation we felt. To this day it brings me to tears talking about it. Thanks be to GOD that we were granted a miracle. A second ultrasound showed the spina bifida to be in a totally different spot than first detected and our little boy not only survived but is a healthy and happy 6weeks old this Tuesday. We still don't know what lies ahead, but we are so thankful for what we've been given. I know you are going through something different, and I will not pretend to know God's plan for your family. And my story may not help you right now. But I learned from experience to pray for a miracle...and that is what I am doing for your Sara Kay. Whatever happens, there are people out there who understand. During my pregnancy I met many families that related to me - some of which did say goodbye to their babies too soon. I guess I just felt the need to tell you we are here and praying for you. Feel free to read our blog or send me a message anytime. I will be keeping up with yours.

  3. Todd and Chrystal,

I am Joanna's aunt and I'm just dropping by to say that I am thinking of you both and praying that God will give you the strength to get through this. I cannot even imagine what you are going through, but I know you love your baby and this has to be so very, very hard.

    Take care.

  4. Todd and Crystal: We are so sad to learn of little Sara's struggle to survive. We are also so sorry for the struggle you all are going through. There simply are no words to comfort. Just trust in your love for each other, know God is with you and hold fast. You are in our constant prayers. Know that your Lourdes family is here for you always and you are in our hearts forever. We love you all.

  5. Krystal and Todd,
Brooks and I are lifting the three of you up in prayer. I have no idea what this must be like, but know that this isn't anything you've done, didn't do, or some form of punishment. I want to encourage you all to stay close through everything...we all cope differently, so just remember the two of you hurt the same, even if it's expressed differently. My heart is breaking for you two so much! i know we haven't kept in touch, but you are still great friends to me. If you need anything, please don't hesitate! Know that God loves you and you love each other. I wish I could be up there for you and I'm praying you have the best delivery nurse to help, too! I love you!!! Sheri
